I don't understand Evangelicals

So...the article I read this morning discusses some evangelical Christians' attitude toward Israel. They believe it is a God-ordained task for Christians to defend Israel. This is all so strange to me, because in my opinion religion and religious beliefs are primarily an inner, personal matter. Those beliefs should inform, and perhaps motivate, the way you treat others and socially good behavior, but it seems strange to me that they would inform someone's opinion about the situation in Israel, especially in such a literal manner. Isn't it more complicated than they allow for? I'm sure all of my readers would agree with me on that. I suppose I'm just venting. Have a good Tuesday!
