I'm so happy. Had to share. I recommend the book with a few reservations: 1. it is highly detailed with lots of names and not always a clear sense of chronology; 2. it is long; 3. Bushman sometimes displays his Mormon bias in ways that frustrated me.
However, it is an excellent and balanced depiction of Joseph Smith as a person, and Bushman does a great job of describing the development of Smith's thinking (and thereby the earliest stages of Mormon theology.)
